The philosophy of this server is to stay as close as possible to vanilla mechanics, except to implement property protection, a currency system and market infrastructure. There is also a bit of rebalancing to make the economy more interesting (more focused on player activity).
This page gives information about other configuration changes which differs from vanilla. It is not complete and will be expanded over time.
For a list of plugins used, see this page.
For a list of commands available to players, look here.
The Sketchpad has some special configuration.
Hard difficulty. This is frustrating to some but almost all experienced players prefer hard mode. The Finite Frontier welcomes all kinds of players but is mostly geared toward hard core gamers.
Unlike most servers, there is no teleportation within the game world except vanilla nether portals etc. So no /spawn
, /home
, /wild
etc. If you want to get somewhere, you have to do the work of travelling.
When first joining the server and if not having slept in a bed, players are spawned in a random place within a certain spawn area. This means that there is no predetermined center of the world.
Villagers are nerfed because they are overpowered in vanilla. On the Finite Froniter, villagers do not offer diamond gear or enchanted books as trades. In particular, this means Mending is very rare.
Claim blocks are ten times as expensive as in LMC. This means you have to work ten times as hard to homestead land. But it also means that there are no huge claims created for no good reason.
The /time
command is disabled. Craft a clock if you want to know what time it is.
There are no announcements of achievements or deaths. People will not know what you are up to unless you tell them. The chat is not constantly filled with superflous messages like "gratz" and "rip".
There is no Dynmap and never will be. If you want to know what the world looks like, where the various settlement are etc, you have to do some work to explore or talk to other players who know more.
The in-game chat is integrated with the Discord server, which lets you follow the conversations even when not playing. However, the Discord chat will not tell you when people log in or out of the game.
There is no filtering of chat messages. It is possible to swear and write terrible things. But you are kindly asked not to be rude or to spam. Other players will ask you to stop if you abuse your chat freedom.
Fires do not spread. The reason is that wildfires can easily ruin vast areas of forest which looks terrible. This is implemented with the built-in configuration option doFireTick false
.
Creeper explosions will not make holes in the ground. Possibly the most controversial setting of them all. Haksndot thinks creeper craters are ugly and seeing them makes him sad. This is implemented with GriefPrevention and the setting BlockSurfaceCreeperExplosions: false
.
Viewing distance is set to 16 chunks which is higher than on most servers. To use this feature, make the corresponding setting in your client, which is Video Settings > Render Distance.
Player vs player combat is disabled by default. It can be turned on or off with the command /pvp
. If you enable PVP, other players are allowed to kill you and take your stuff.
Breaking bedrock is disabled because Paper (the server software) has fixed the glitch through wich permanent blocks can be broken. Breaking bedrock is not in itself a big problem, but enabling it would also enable breaking end portal blocks, which would be unacceptable. More details here.
If you run into light glitches you can use the command /cleanlight
which has a chance to fix the glitches.
